Brazos ARES Weather Monitor

Brazos Valley situational awareness — online or through Winlink.

Weather information built for operations

The Brazos ARES Weather Monitor organizes supported National Weather Service text products into a seven-county view covering Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties.

With internet access, the application retrieves supported products automatically. When normal internet access is unavailable, operators can import supported NWS products received through Winlink Catalog Requests.

Download Weather MonitorView Help
Windows desktop installer.
Windows or your browser may warn about this download.

Brazos ARES Weather Monitor is a community-developed Windows application and the installer may not have a commercial code-signing reputation yet. If you intentionally downloaded weather-monitor-setup.exe from this official Brazos ARES page, your browser or Windows SmartScreen may require you to choose Keep, More info, or Run anyway. If Microsoft Defender quarantines the installer, open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history, review the detection, and restore/allow it only if the file came from this official site and you intended to install it. Do not disable Windows Security. Managed computers may require approval from your administrator.

Normal Operation

  • Retrieves supported NWS ZFP and SFT products online.
  • Automatic refresh at 15, 30, or 60 minutes.
  • Shows NWS issuance time, retrieval time, source, mode, and next update.
  • Aggregates active NWS headlines across all seven configured counties.
  • Provides county forecast, tabular forecast, and raw NWS product views.

Offline / Winlink Operation

Import the complete product.

Use Winlink Catalog Requests to obtain a supported NWS product, open the returned message, copy the entire message, and paste it into Import NWS Product. The application strips the Winlink wrapper and parses the recognized NWS product locally.

Operational Principle

The application reorganizes supported National Weather Service products for readability. It does not create forecasts or invent unsupported conditions. When a formatted display and the raw NWS product appear inconsistent, use the raw NWS product as the authoritative source.
